It was ‘Republic Day’ 2014 and we decided to Harishchandragad via Nalichi Vaat. After hearing this plan, I quickly packed from office on 24th Jan Friday, as it was 2-days trek. Hardly was at home for 45minutes, had my dinner packed and left and said to family, see you directly on Sunday night/evening 😛
We were 7-Boys, 2-Girls. Caught last S.T Bus from Kalyan, heading towards Malshej Ghat. We and conductor was not sure about Sawarne(Savarne) Village which is just ahead of Moroshi naka OR before Malshej Ghat Starting ifg you are coming from Mumbai. Asking people we gotta’ know, some trekkers have also gone from private cab’s till Belpada(old name) OR Walivare(some say) OR Walhivale(current name). Okay here is the way to reach :
Way to reach Harishchandragad basecamp :
From Mumbai :
Kalyan -> Sawarne Village – > 2hours walk to Walhivale village, no route for vehicle from Sawarne.
Kalyan -> 20meters before Moroshi Naka take left reach Walhivale village(11 Km), vehicles can directly reach till basecamp.
Here is the resolution if any confusion :
We then decided to drop down at Moroshi Naka @1am and hoping there would be any Vehicle we could hire. Walking from Moroshi naka we found a Vehicle , we managed him to take us till Walhivale village.
We spend our night in School :
Early morning we started our trek. From Walhivale till base of Nalichi Vaat, the way is tricky and guidance is required. It takes 1-hour from Walhivale till base of Nalichi Vaat. Now my DSLR comes out, this was 1st trek of my DSLR 😛
Konkan-Kada from base, we have to go up there 😛
The movement of the Rocks keeps changing every year, due monsoon washout. Rocks are huge and one is suggested to hold or support rock carefully. See how we are struggling climbing 😛
Somebody sat of this Samosa, this was our breakfast 😛
Again back on Nalichi vaat :
After climbing you’ll find the 1st patch, it is is steep, but easy except monsoon. So ropes might required.
After some climb you have to leave this Vaat you are climbing and take right for a wall perpendicular to Nalichi vaat, for 2nd path, you have to move adjacent to Nalichi vaat(Please see the route map above as we don’t have to complete this Vaat)
Rope is required in Monsoon. Now you’ll go back on this wall(Please check the routemap)
By all were climbing, Hardik took these people to wrong route and got shucked. They are coming back, Checkout their faces 😛
We got a small wall again climbing, it is managable, and just crossing this wall we get a flat surface. One villager was selling Nimbu-Paani(Lemonade)
Moving ahead a small wall we have to climb, after this you’ll see the side view of Konkan Kada :
Reaching on Konkan Kada, we had our lunch from the Villager’s. It was damn tasty, all ate more then their tummy.
Villager’s arranged us tents, ‘Konkan kada‘ is more now Camping spot 😀
Next task was to collect water, get some woods for dinner and campfire for night. In monsoon it is difficult for a campsite here, wind blows very heavily, and rains every time. We got some water from a water cistern behind this plateau, don’t think whether is it hygienic, drink it 😛 Interestingly it looks like ‘Shivling’.
Evening at Konkan Kada :
Cooks on the play and made something to eat
Things got windy and freezing, we hope into tents and slept, all night wind was blowing extremely, and we were thinking, would our tent flew away 😛
Morning wake-up, hailed ‘Shivaji Maharaj’ name and head for Taramati Peak :
Taramati here we come 😀
Shivling at Taramati
Now we descend for Harishchandragad temple. Caves are sometimes full, as many trekkers visit this place.
Free Doctor fish treatment 😀
Some carvings are 11th century old.
Having breakfast, we headed for descending towards Khireshwar. This way is the easiest way of this trek but long, and couple of hill are covered. Reaching down, we can have full range view and a lake next to it.
We had a deep in this lake and headed towards Main road for S.T. Bus to catch towards Kalyan. There is another ancient temple next to this Lake, people say it is 1st temple before Harishchandreshwar Temple was built.
Got our bus but due to Sunday , we didn’t got seats, all sat in the Gangway 😛
Below are some extra shots :
It was a nice camping trek. Catch you on another adventure 🙂
